Underlays

Underlays for hard floor. Easy to install by Vilo

Underlay is fitted between the subfloor and the floor plank in order to improve the durability of the floor and its insulating properties. Underlay also level out unevenness of the subfloor, improves acoustic insulation, protects the panels from moisture and increases their resistance to loads. In the case of underfloor heating, the underlay allows for proper heat conduction, following instructions from supplier.

In this category you will find a variety of products that are characterized by excellent properties. We offer underlays made of polyurethane, polyethylene or extruded polystyrene. They differ in terms of acoustic insulation, resistance to loads, and heat conduction. Our offer also includes underlays designed for use with underfloor heating, such as the Rigid Master or Alu Multi Force underlay.

What are the features of Vilo underlays?

Products in this category are distinguished by their high quality. They effectively level the unevenness of the subfloor, provide thermal and acoustic insulation, and are resistant to loads and moisture. If you are planning to lay underfloor heating in your room, Vilo offers underlays with low thermal resistance, which ensure efficient heat flow.

Installation is really easy and comes down to following a few simple steps. First of all, make sure the subfloor is clean, dry and level. Then unroll the underlay and cover the entire surface with it. Once it's unrolled, seal the joints between the different parts of the subfloor with special tape to prevent it from moving.

Where are underlays used under panels?

Underlays are used in a variety of residential and commercial spaces. In living rooms and bedrooms they increase the comfort of walking, insulate the subfloor and make it quieter. In kitchens they protect the panels from moisture. In corridors, hallways and offices, that is, wherever there is heavy traffic, they help protect the floor from wear and tear. What to put under floor panels when underfloor heating? In such conditions, special-purpose underlays that promote heat conduction will work well.

Underlays for panels - types

Underlays for panels vary in terms of material, thickness and function, which affects their use and properties. Several main categories of these products can be distinguished:

  • The polyurethane (PU) floor underlay - is thin and has high load resistance and relatively low sound insulation. It works well in areas where heat conduction is important, such as underfloor heating.
  • Underlay for panels made of polyethylene - has a slightly greater thickness than the PU underlay and provides better sound insulation (above 18 dB). Such a sponge under the panels is suitable for rooms where noise reduction is important. It can usually be used with underfloor heating.
  • Extruded polystyrene (XPS) underlay - It comes in various thicknesses, from 2 mm to 4 mm, and offers very good sound insulation. It is also resistant to loads. Versions are available for underfloor heating, as well as for standard applications. In the thicker variants, they effectively level out irregularities in the subfloor.
  • Underlays in the form of puzzland - thanks to their form, they are easy to install.
  • Perforated underlays - thanks to their structure conduct heat well. The gouge allows air circulation. This prevents the retention of moisture under the panels and reduces the risk of mold.

What to consider when choosing an underlay for panels?

When you choose an underlayment for panels for your room, take into account such properties as:

Leveling unevenness

Thicker underlayments (3 or 5 mm), are better able to cope with larger irregularities, while thinner underlayments (e.g., 1 mm or 2 mm) are suitable for even surfaces.

Sound insulation

If you are concerned about soundproofing your rooms, pay attention to the level of sound insulation. Some underlays offer insulation of up to 20 dB. which effectively reduces noise. This is especially important in rooms such as bedrooms and living rooms.

Load resistance

In areas where the panels will be subjected to heavy loads (such as the living room or office), choose an underlay with high pressure resistance so that the panels will not be damaged, preferably one with a strength of more than 500 kPa.

Heat conduction

If you plan to use underfloor heating, an important factor is the low thermal resistance of the underlay, which allows efficient heat conduction. Choose a model specifically designed for underfloor heating, such as Rigid Master or Alu Multi Force.

Resistance to moisture

In rooms (kitchens or bathrooms), underlays made of materials such as XPS (extruded polystyrene) will work well. These are resistant to moisture.
